Source: NFL seeking $2M from Jerry Jones over legal spats
According to multiple sources, the National Football League is seeking in excess of $2 million from Jones, citing a resolution that was added to the National Football League constitution in 1997 that says if an owner participates in bringing litigation against other owners, he must reimburse them for the legal fees.
Among Jones' 2017 actions that ruffled feathers were the Elliott ordeal, proposing a six-month moratorium on finalizing any new contract for Goodell and threatening to sue the owners' compensation committee if it approved Goodell's extension.
At the same time, Jones was pushing to keep cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott from being suspended. Jones will be ordered to pay all the legal fees on both sides of the issue associated with the case, the insiders say.
The NFL declined comment Monday.
At the same meeting, with the support of most owners, Goodell was given a five-year extension.
In a November letter from an outside attorney for the league to Boies, the compensation committee informed Jones that he was guilty of conduct detrimental to the league.

Polling in Nagaland, Meghalaya; yet another Congress and BJP fight
Election has been countermanded in Williamnagar in the wake of the killing of an NCP candidate Jonathone N Sangma in an IED blast. For the first time, 67 all-women polling stations and 61 model polling stations were set up in the state, the CEO said.
The biggest fine ever handed out by the league was $1 million, and the NFL has done that twice.
The Cowboys owner had worked quite openly to put a crimp in Commissioner Goodell's contract negotiations previous year and now it appears that Goodell is looking for revenge, The New York Times reported on February 26.
Regardless, while Jones lost the legal battles, one has to ask what the league is gaining in its attempt to recoup its fees. At a league meeting in Irving, Texas, in December, Jones was upbraided for his behavior by many owners, including some who rarely weigh in strongly on league issues.
Jerry Jones attempted to sabotage Roger Goodell's contract extension and was vocal about his feeling that Ezekiel Elliott shouldn't have been suspended. Jones had been advocating behind the scenes for a regime change and had already identified a hand-picked replacement for Goodell.
-On multiple occasions, he was publicly critical of the league's investigation - and ultimately suspension - of Elliott after numerous off-field incidents. Under its terms, he has the possibility of earning as much as $200 million.
