Russia's Ministry of Defense released video footage Friday of a test launch of its new intercontinental ballistic missile, the Sarmat.

The missile, Sarmat, was test-dropped at the northern Plesetsk spaceport.

The RS-28 Sarmat is created to replace the Soviet-era Voevoda ICBM, known by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation designation SS-18 Satan.

In his state-of-the-nation address in early March, President Vladimir Putin touted several advanced Russian weapons, including the Sarmat heavy missile. It also accelerates faster, which could help it elude missile defense systems. It comes just days after the United States tested its own ICBM off the coast of Southern California, and after Poland agreed to buy $4.7 billion of patriot missiles from America.
