SC Protects Karti Chidambaram From Arrest By ED Till March 26
The Supreme Court has also ordered the transfer of the case to itself along with all other cases pertaining to ED's power of arrest in cases of money laundering.
High Court gives Karti 2 more days of protection from arrest The Delhi high court on Thursday extended the protection from arrest granted to Karti Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case from March 20 to 22.
He said Bombay, Punjab and Haryana and Delhi high courts have interpreted Sections 19 and 45 of PMLA on power of arrest differently and, hence, he apex court should adjudicate the issue.
On March 9, the high court asked ED not to arrest Karti, who is in CBI custody in the case - in case he gets bail in the CBI case -till it heard the matter next. Following Supreme Court's order, Karti Chidambaram has got an interim relief on the basis of which he can not be arrested until March 26 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The date was extended after ED counsel Vinod Diwakar had said to the court that he has instructions from Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta that the ASG has no objection if the date of hearing is changed to 22 March.
CBI had registered a case in May 2017 for allegedly irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media, criminal conspiracy and cheating, etc. This is about a case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding alleged money laundering in the INC Media case.
Karti had earlier approached the top court with a petition challenging ED proceedings against him under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the case.
