Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson will be reportedly starring in Kiwi director Taika Waititi's latest offering, Jojo Rabbit.

Scarlett Johansson is set to take a lead role in upcoming film Jojo Rabbit. The film will be produced by Fox Searchlight. JoJo Rabbit is the story of a young boy in Hitler's army who learns that his mom is hiding a Jewish boy in the house.

As the naive young boy struggles to understand his place in an increasingly Fascist regime, he resorts to an imaginary friend who can offer advice and help him cope. Johansson will play his mother, who doesn't understand her child and the challenges he's facing.

Google Starts Rolling Out Mobile-First Search Index

Waititi plays a death cult leader in the incredibly long-titled film, Seven Stages to Achieve Eternal Bliss By Passing Through the Gateway Chosen By the Holy Storsh (previously known as Corpse Tub). But the director made it clear to Variety that Jojo Rabbit will be his next film. While Waititi has been busy filming his "What We Do in the Shadows" pilot, he was able to meet with Johansson prior to that production to discuss the role.

Waititi penned the script and will produce alongside Carthew Neal and Chelsea Winstanley.

Jojo Rabbit will mark a change of direction for Johansson, who has appeared in numerous fantasy and superhero films recently. She has also lent her voice to Wes Anderson's animated film "Isle of Dogs".
