Following the inaugural session, Modi headed to Luwangshangbam to lay the foundation stones for Luwangpokpa Multi Sports Complex, National Sports University and freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu Park at Mantripukhri.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 105th Indian Science Congress at Manipur University on Friday.

In a boost to research in science and technology, Modi also said that the Prime Minister's Research Fellows' scheme has been approved.

"Science is after all, but a means to a far greater end; of making a difference in the lives of others, of furthering human progress and welfare", he said.

On his part, General President of the Indian Science Congress, Dr. Achyuta Samanta said, "The focal theme- Reaching the Unreached through Science and Technology- definitely justified this session being held in the North east which coincidentally has remained the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's thrust area". "I call upon scientists to develop a mechanism for interaction with school-children", he said.

The event was first scheduled to be held in January at Osmania University in Hyderabad.
