Local students organize to participate in National School Walkout Day on March 14
High School - Student groups are working together with the leadership of the CHS Student Council to plan for CHS's participation.
As the Parkland students return to school after their frightful tragedy, Yeagley believes it's important for them to know "someone in Terre Haute cares about them".
Kyle Kennedy, a spokesperson for the Polk County School District, said part of the goal is to give students a chance to talk about what they're experiencing.
In addition to planning a march in downtown Greenville on Saturday, March 24, that will coincide with the national March For Our Lives in Washington, D.C., the group is "coordinating efforts for the national school walkout on Wednesday, March 14".
"It's a right we have here to be able to protest things in the United States and students will - if they choose - have the opportunity to take advantage of that", he said. "Additionally, a walkout in support of gun reform legislation could provoke a simultaneous walkout in support of gun ownership rights, which could easily lead to violence and unrest at school".
The peaceful protest is staged by the Women's March Youth Empower Movement.
