Second person charged after Facebook video showed baby smoking marijuana

Nova Scotians will be able to smoke and vape cannabis in their own residence on their private property in their apartment if it is permitted in the lease and in outdoor public spaces with some restrictions

The province is bolstering its smoke-free places legislation ahead of the federal legalization of recreational cannabis use expected this summer or fall.

On and within nine metres of public trails.

Nova Scotia is set to beef up its regulations around smoking cannabis and tobacco in public areas, the province announced on Tuesday. "With cannabis legalization on the horizon, it is right that we have expanded the number and type of smoke-free places in Nova Scotia".

Health Minister Randy Delorey said keeping cannabis away from playgrounds is about protecting children from second-hand smoke, as well as keeping smoking and vaping products out of their hands.

The amendments will still permit Nova Scotians to smoke or vape cannabis at home and on private property, as well as leased apartments and certain outdoor public places. A new study by researchers at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health and the City University of NY reports that cannabis use was associated with an increased initiation of cigarette smoking among non-cigarette smokers.

"Developing a better understanding of the relationship between marijuana use and cigarette use transitions is critical and timely as cigarette smoking remains the leading preventable cause of premature death and disease, and use of cannabis is on the rise in the USA", said Renee Goodwin, PhD, in the Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health, and senior author.

China 'not afraid' of a trade war, threatens U.S. with tariffs
Treasury has been told to come up with a fresh batch of investment restrictions for Chinese buyers in the market for U.S. assets. Since China isn't a signatory to the WTO's rules on government procurement , it would be relatively free to employ this weapon.

The new legislation will prohibit the use of tobacco in vehicles used as part of one's work, unless the vehicle is also for personal use and is only driven by one person during work hours.

If cannabis is being carried in a vehicle, it must be stored in a closed, fastened package and out of reach to the driver or passengers.

The province says the proposed amendments will be introduced in the current legislative session.

Municipalities will be allowed to put additional restrictions in place.

Smoking is also prohibited in vehicles where children are passengers.
