With the win, Seton Hall advances to the NCAA Tournament second round for the first time since 2004 and the second time since Tommy Amaker led them to the Sweet 16 in 2000.

The Pirates dominated the game nearly from the opening tip, leading by double-digits nine minutes in and keeping a large lead for much of the contest. That motivation may keep Seton Hall afloat through the coming challenges. But don't sleep on sophomore guard Myles Powell who was named the Big East Most Improved Player after averaging 15.4 points per game - second-most on the team - and is shot 38.5 percent from behind the 3-point arc this season.

TERRIFIC TRIO: The Pirates' trio of Desi Rodriguez, Khadeen Carrington and Angel Delgado has combined for almost 5,000 points, and all of them rank in the top 20 in school history. I can't speak for what happened here last year or the year before that or whatever the case may be. Sanogo, finishing with 10 points and 10 boards, gave Seton Hall an important presence inside in game-defining moments.

Rams tried to sign Tyler Eifert but Bengals matched their offer
Eifert's season ended previous year due to a back injury and he has also suffered injuries to his ankle, elbow and knees. In his Pro Bowl season in 2015, Eifert posted career highs in catches (52), receiving yards (615) and touchdowns (13).

With NC State's big men in foul trouble, including seven-footer Omer Yurtseven, the Pirates looked inside for an answer. "Other than the other scouting report my coach is going to give me, I got a great scouting report myself", Rodriguez added, drawing laughter in the interview room after Thursday's victory. They combined to score 12 straight points for the Pirates, highlighted by a 10-2 run to seize control, and the starting guards showed plenty of poise when North Carolina State tried to make one last run. "And the guys in the program stood by us, and I'm proud of them".

"I don't think scoring was really on my mind that much", Carrington said.

On the season, Seton Hall basketball averages 79.0 points, 38.2 rebounds and 15.8 assists per game. The game held a season-high in scoring and free throws made, two areas that have been weaknesses at points that Seton Hall used as strengths Thursday.

The high-scoring tempo was set early on, when the Pirates scored on their first eight possessions and hardly missed a shot. "That's what I'm feeling right now".

"I was pissed [because of the injury] but at the same time I had confidence in my team", Rodriguez said.

Lennard Freeman had 13 points off the bench for NC State, which returned to the tournament for the first time in three years. "And I've been watching them, and hopefully we can get a win". The two will face off back in Wichita, Kan. on Saturday, March 17. "Right now it's great, it's great, we won a game, but we can not get happy with one game".

"I don't think we overachieved as far as our standards", Freeman said. "We gotta get happy when we win everything".
