'Sharknado' Franchise To End With Time-Traveling Sixth Installment

Sharknado set to end with No. 6

The first film's objectively insane premise earned itself some early online attention, but Syfy had made films just as insane before that hadn't managed to blow up. The first movie was followed by Sharknado 2: The Second One, which was a series-best reeling in 3.9 million viewers. Still good numbers for Syfy, but clearly a sign of a series on its way out in terms of popularity and relevance.

That ends soon. According to a report by TVLine, the five-year-mission of the wicked weather/soaring shark disaster franchise is finally coming to a close with its sixth, currently-untitled chapter, set for release this summer. As with past sequels, one should expect a cheeky subtitle to be added to the film at some point prior to its premiere on TV.

As you may or may not recall, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming found Ian Ziering's leading man Finn wandering alone on Earth after it was destroyed.

No Man's Sky coming to Xbox One in 'largest update yet'
The game's most recent update, Atlas Rises , was released last summer, adding 30 hours of story as well as more planetary variety. The port of the space exploration adventure will feature 4K support and HDR enhancement on Xbox One X.

Regarding Sharknado 6, which has its title to-be-announced, Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Vivica A. Fox and Cassie Scerbo are said to be returning, which sees Fin and the crew go back in time to fight a Sharknado. The mindbogglingly resilient TV movie franchise about a man-eating meterological phenomenon and the celebrity cameos it spawns is going to be packing things in. It will be directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, who has shepherded this franchise since the very start.

The so-bad-maybe-it's-good film franchise kicked off in 2013, with its fifth instalment Sharknado 5: Global Swarming released previous year.

Sharknado 6 will air on July 25 and provide an opportunity for closure.
