Murdered Slovak journalist was'investigating Italian mafia
No details were immediately available.
Kuciak's last, unfinished investigative report raised possible political links to Italian businessmen with alleged ties to Calabria's notorious mafia supposedly operating in eastern Slovakia.
Mr Kuciak's final report described, among other details, the activities in agriculture, real estate and other sectors of a Slovak-based Italian man believed to belong to the criminal group.
The bodies of 27-year-old Jan Kuciak and his girlfriend, Martina Kusnirova, were found on February 25 in their house in Velka Maca, east of the capital, Bratislava. "However, since our names are abused in the political fight against prime minister Robert Fico, we made a decision to leave our posts in the government office until the investigation is over".
With media rights deteriorating in the EU's post-communist members, the country's first high-profile murder of a journalist has revived memories of media intimidation by organized crime bosses during the 1990s rule of authoritarian Premier Vladimir Meciar.
Marek Vagovic, the head of the team of investigative journalists at aktuality.sk, told AFP that Kuciak's murder was "the end of an era" in Slovakia, saying he expected greater pressure on investigator to investigate and prosecute "serious crimes" like corruption.
According to the Slovak business registry, Italian businessman Antonino Vadala briefly owned a firm with Maria Troskova, an aide to Fico.

"You link innocent people to a double murder without any evidence", Mr Fico said.
The opposition has called for the resignation of national police force President Tibor Gaspar and Interior Minister Robert Kalinak.
Mr Gaspar said the murder was probably connected to Kuciak's investigative work, and the government offered a €1 million reward to help find his killer.
The murders have raised concerns about media freedoms and corruption in Slovakia and sparked a wave of worldwide condemnation.
He said those taken into custody during raids in the eastern town of Michalovice were "persons mentioned" by Kuciak in connection with the "Italian track".
Italian organized crime figures may have been involved in the shooting death of an investigative journalist in Slovakia, a Canadian reporter said Tuesday as the country's newspapers printed black-and-white front pages to honour the slain journalist.
