Gaspar told local media that Slovakia had never before experienced such an attack on a journalist. He said: "We have to find those who did it as soon as possible and ensure the safety of all journalists".

"We demand an investigation to shed light on the exact circumstances of this case, especially since Jan Kuciak and his relatives received threats in recent months", a statement from Pauline Ades-Mevel, who heads RSF's EU-Balkans office, said.
Editors-in-chief of major Slovak media urged the government to take necessary steps to find the people responsible for the slayings and "to create conditions for the safe work of journalists".
He denied having negative interactions with the reporter, though he also admitted that he had suggested that any negative information he learned about Kuciak could also be reported.
