The first-generation Snapchat Spectacles failed to become a breakout product beyond its initial hype
The new version will also cost more than double the price of Snap's original Spectacles, coming in at around $300. According to a new report, the company is now preparing a new version of Spectacles, which happens to be its wearable camera in the form of sunglasses, if you did not already know. Nevertheless, Snap is said to be working on two new Spectacles products.
The 2018 edition of Spectacles will feature new colors and a water-resistant body, but won't come with any major hardware updates, according to the report. The company installed clever SnapBot pop-up vending machines in cities around the USA and excited Snapchat users seemed willing to wait hours to buy them. The first is a second-generation model which improves on the performance bits of wearable. A second new version, with dual cameras, Global Positioning System and other high-end features, would cost closer to $300 and arrive next year.

Cheddar also reports that Snap is considering partnering with Luxottica and Warby Parker on sales on building camera tech into their existing eyeglasses, though it seems like those discussions are still at an early stage. The company is looking to expand and had previously acquired the imaging company FiveFocal quietly at the end of 2017 to make this possible.
So, while Snapchat took a whopping $40 million loss on the first generation of Spectacles, it looks like it hasn't been deterred.
