Puigdemont refuses to rule out fresh elections in Catalonia
Spain's Supreme court said on Friday that the candidate to lead the Catalan government would not be permitted to leave the jail to attend an investiture vote next week.
Judge Pablo LLarena wrote in a ruling Friday that there was a risk that Jordi Sanchez would repeat the offenses which have landed him in jail.
Catalonia's parliament wants to vote on Sanchez as leader Monday.
The candidate put forward by secessionist parties, Jordi Sanchez, is now in jail as he awaits trial on charges of rebellion and sedition over Catalonia's illegal referendum and unilateral declaration of independence from Spain last October.
