Fans are split on whether the Fiat 124 Spider is better looking than the Mazda Miata but the company is trying to settle the debate once and for all with the new 124 Spider S-Design.
Abarth says the roof, which weighs just 16kg, helps improve the "compactness" and torsional rigidity of the vehicle.
THE ABARTH 124 GT will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next week boasting a removable carbon fibre hardtop which weighs just 16kg. Fiat claims the hardtop can be removed and reinstalled in a few easy steps.
The 124 GT version will keep its manually operated soft-top convertible roof; but now a lightweight carbon fiber hardtop is an option. Sharing the stage with the 124 GT is the Abarth 695 Rivale, which was built in partnership with yacht-maker Riva.

Apart from the optional carbon fiber roof, the Abarth 124 GT comes equipped with 17-inch OZ wheels, which are a little over 6 pounds lighter than the standard wheels.
Based on the Abarth 124 Spider, the 124 GT is finished in Alpi Orientali Grey with a matte blackout treatment for the hood, mimicking its rallying counterpart.
Performance is unchanged - the same 1.4-litre turbocharged engine gives 168bhp and 184lb ft of torque, so acceleration to 62mph remains unchanged at 6.8sec, with a 144mph top speed. Buyers can choose either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It now comes with a more retro design mostly due to the two-tone color scheme of Riva Sera Blue and Riva Shark Gray with an aquamarine stripe splitting the two different paint schemes. It has a top speed of 140 miles per hour and only needs 6.7 seconds to reach 62 miles per hour.
