The recent ball tampering incident in the third Test match in Cape Town has been creating waves across the globe among cricket fans after captain Steve Smith admitted to the offence in a press conference at the end of day's play on Saturday. Concerns centred on David Warner polishing the ball at mid-off but the only time anything remotely suspicious was picked up on camera involved Cameron Bancroft in the fifth Test in Sydney. He tweeted, "Here's Cameron Bancroft appearing to put sugar in his pocket against England in January".
In the video Bancroft can be seen taking a spoon of sugar wit his right hand and then palming it with his left and in a slick movement pocket the sugar.
What the sugar was used for is unclear, however South African skipper Faf du Plessis was found guilty of ball tampering in 2016 after rubbing a sugary lolly on the ball during a Test match in Hobart.
David Warner has emerged as the central figure in Australian ball-tampering skulduggery that stretches back to this winter's Ashes.
So that's basically ball tampering. "There was no evidence that they were -doing this in the Ashes series, from what I've seen". "You look through virtually all of those Test matches and they reverse swung the ball in sometimes conditions that you wouldn't expect the ball to reverse, so I don't understand why they've changed their method for this one game".
