New 'Ready Player One' Trailer Is the Most Immersive and Coherent Yet
The Plot: The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse.
Steven Spielberg's geek epic Ready Player One recently debuted at SXSW to glowing reviews. Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future trilogy) will compose the music. James Halliday (Mark Rylance), the creator of the OASIS, has died but he left behind a Willy Wonka-esque challenge for players: whoever can find the one Easter egg hidden away somewhere will earn his entire fortune.
While Star Wars was created by Spielberg's old pal George Lucas (who might have been more amenable to lending the fellow director a hand), it's now owned by Disney, who were understandably less than keen on lending their billion-dollar franchise to rival studio Warner Bros.
"We couldn't get any Star Wars rights", he said. "They wouldn't give up the Star Wars rights". Since then, the 21-year-old actor has booked major roles in genre blockbusters, stealing scenes in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse as a young Scott Summers (he'll reprise the role in this year's X-Men sequel Dark Phoenix) and Steven Spielberg's virtual reality romp Ready Player One.

The new trailer is entitled Dreamer, and shares lots of previously unseen footage of Wade and Art3mis as they move from competitors to allies.
Joining Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse, Mud), Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Bates Motel), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One - A Star Wars Story, Bloodline) and T.J. Miller (Deadpool, Silicon Valley), with Simon Pegg (the Star Trek movies, the Mission: Impossible movies) and Oscar victor Mark Rylance (The BFG, Dunkirk) round out the cast. The Japanese TV show Ultraman plays a role at the end of the novel, but you won't see it in the film; the character has been replaced with the Iron Giant, who's featured prominently in trailers.
"Ultraman is in a lawsuit, believe it or not", Zak Penn, who co-wrote the screenplay, told io9.
