The Dublin Airport is seen covered with snow, in Dublin Thomson Reuters DUBLIN/LONDON (Reuters) - Snow storms shut most of Ireland on Friday and forced Britain to call in the army to battle some of the worst weather seen in almost 30 years.
People are being urged to stay indoors until the snowstorm conditions pass tomorrow.
Storm Emma is set to dump up to metre of snow on Ireland with Leinster and Munster worst hit during a historic snow storm that will see records tumble, Met Éireann has warned. The status red alert for Leinster and Munster is now in place until 6pm tomorrow.
She told RTE News: "Due to easterly gales, with orographic lift, there could be exceptionally high amounts of snow for eastern parts of Wicklow and indeed southern parts of Dublin. We are looking at the likelihood of record breaking snow accumulations", she said.
She said she expected the snow to "feed in continuously for 24 hours".
"In fact we could get up to a metre of snow and this will have a huge knock-on effect over the next few days".
