This means that for the coming midterm - and the next presidential election - OH voters will have to deal with a map that gave Republicans 75 percent of the state's seats, even though the GOP won only about 57 percent of the vote in 2016.

More participation in primary elections doesn't necessarily correlate with higher voter turnout in general elections.

Election day for the Texas primaries is in less than a week, and the race for a representative spot in Texas' 21st Congressional District is heating up. The CNN piece notes that Senator Ron Wyden has been asking to see those returns and "to obtain records about a lucrative 2008 real estate deal between Trump and a Russian billionaire that raised questions among Democrats about potential money laundering and suspect business dealings".

"If Democratic candidates can run solid, well-funded campaigns", he said, "they would be in better position to take advantage of an enthusiastic base". By applying uniform rates to the vote counts of each race in 2016, WhoWhatWhy found the point where Democrats could win enough seats to win a majority. Trump's favorability in Texas isn't as high as a state with a deeply red reputation would suggest. Yet voter primary participation is inexplicably low. But when it comes to convincing Hispanic voters to play a bigger role in elections, it doesn't help that they're already starting from behind.

What's ominous about these two - one in New Hampshire, one in CT - is they continue a pattern of Republican reversals at the state level.
