Newly released footage of the Parkland shooting shows former Broward Deputy Scot Peterson standing outside of the Florida high school as the gunman kills 17 people inside. Sheriff Scott Israel, who has been another lighting rod for controversy for saying he's exhibited unbelievable leadership, commented that he was sick to his stomach when he saw the footage of his deputy not entering the building. "Mr. Peterson took up a tactical position between the 700-800 buildings corridor/corner".

The police tapes, released by Coral Springs police, provide more evidence that Peterson mishandled the crisis in its earliest stages, one of several lapses in the law enforcement response.

The first moments of the video show what was happening about a minute after the shooting started.

The deputy failed to confront the gunman during the six-minute rampage, the video time stamps show, confirming the account of other law enforcement officers who raised questions about the response by the sheriff's office nearly immediately after the shooting.

A Broward circuit judge on Monday authorized the release of the videos. Students and staff can be heard begging 911 operators for help - as at least one BSO deputy was waiting outside the building where people were injured and dead.

When back up officers arrived at the scene he told them the gunman was outside, according to his lawyer, this was backed up by "radio transmissions [which] indicated that there was a gunshot victim in the area of the football field".

"Someone might want to check Scott Peterson's allegiances", someone else said.
