3D-printed housing that can be built in less than 24 hours has been unveiled in the U.S., and could be used to shelter millions in developing countries without adequate housing.

New Story and ICON recently "printed" a 350-square foot home in Austin, Texas, which they say is the first such property of its kind in the USA that have been built according to local building codes. It says its new 3D home printer can create an 80 square foot home that meets building regulations in under 24 hours.

New Story estimates that roughly 1.3 billion people globally do not now have access to adequate or safe housing, which accounts for 14% of the world's population.

The 3D-printed home was constructed using a giant 3D-printer filled with mortar, a cement-like paste normally used to bind together bricks when building houses.

Communist Leader in Nepal Begins Second Term
Bhandari took almost two-thirds of the vote to retain her position as ceremonial head of state, the election commission confirmed. Critics say she has not done enough to advance women's rights in deeply patriarchal Nepal -though her role is largely ceremonial.

Former Apple employees discuss Siri problems with The Information
Employees say Siri was rushed to market and was built on a technically flawed foundation that Apple is still trying to fix. Of course, when you're serving hundreds of millions of users across all of Apple's devices, that's a tall task.

It takes less than 24 hours to print a 55-75 square-metre home, and the process costs roughly $4,000 (£2,870) per house.

"For this venture to succeed, they have to be the best houses", Ballard said. The home is a prototype of what New Story wants to bring to developing nations.

The first demonstration of the design has been shown off at the SXSW convention in Austin, Texas, with plans also revealed to build a community of 100 homes in El Salvador next year. "We think the need for 3D printed homes is just as present here in Austin, as it is in El Salvador".
