David Warner has been banned by Cricket Australia for a year and will never lead his country again
As the ball-tampering scandal continues its unrelenting crackdown, head coach of the Australia cricket team Darren Lehmann has stepped down from his position.
Stripped of the Australian captaincy for at least two years, he owned full responsibility for the whole scandal that broke out during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.
At a press conference in South Africa, a tearful Lehmann said he made the decision while watching former captain's Steve Smith's emotional press conference.
But the impression I got was, at a period in time where they could've been addressing the broader issue of team culture, Cricket Australia were instead intent on bringing in an Aussie knockabout for beers at the bar at 6pm, telling stories about yesteryear, everyone sitting around the campfire and having a laugh and going to bed happy.
Embattled Australia go back to the business of playing cricket Friday after a week of scandal, suspensions, confessions and torrents of tears.
"Ultimately I'm responsible for the culture of the team".
"After viewing Steve and Cameron's hurting it's only fair that I make this decision". Smith and Warner have been handed 12-month bans from worldwide cricket and Bancroft a nine-month ban. "I think he's one of the good guys and he's just been caught in a bad place", said Du Plessis, who has twice been found guilty of ball tampering himself, but was only fined and never banned.
Lehmann had been cleared of any wrongdoing in the matter by a Cricket Australia investigation on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, former Captain Steve Smith, who was also slapped with a 12-month ban, read a short statement of apology to reporters, before breaking down while taking questions.
"I am sorry to the people who have looked up to me around the world, especially the kids".
