NEWS Teen dies after sinus infection travels to his brain
13-year-old child dies at hospital after being diagnosed with rare sinus infection.
Peggy Gilbert, a relative of Marquel Brumley, the eighth-grader who recently passed away at the hospital, recalls that the family's tragedy began at the beginning of February when the boy was brought to the emergency room after he experiences cold-like symptoms. At that point, an MRI was done by the doctors which tell that he had a brain infection. His entire left side of the face gets droop down. After suffering from two strokes, doctors said Brumley needed a brain surgery.
The sinus infection apparently penetrated through the bone and entered the blood vessels in the brain, resulting in blood clots. A couple of days later, the teen started having awful migraines.
Marquel's aunt, Nicole Alexander, told WJRT on Monday that doctors said the infection traveled to her nephew's brain.
"Every day without fail, 'love you Aunt Nicki".
"So, they told us that he was gone". Really just a sweetheart.
The teenager's sister Alexandria Brumley also spoke out, saying: "He was my favorite person".
"I feel like it's not real".

As symptoms persisted, the boy's mother demanded more answers.
The teenager, who visited a clinic last month due to cold symptoms, was diagnosed by doctors to have a sinus infection.
According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, about 60 to 70 percent of people with sinus infections recover without antibiotics.
