Baseball Coach Under Fire For Email To Hopeful High School Senior

Jeffcoat was sacked over the email as well as NAIA rule violations regarding player eligibility, Slabach said, adding that he could not go into detail about those violations because the investigation was ongoing.

Jeffcoat, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, was sacked for "his remarks as well as the NAIA violations under his watch", university president Fred Slabach told reporters Thursday. "Unfortunately, we are not recruiting players from the state of Colorado", Jeffcoat wrote, according to Denver7.

Jeffcoat, a former Texas Rangers pitcher and the Sooner Athletic Conference coach of the year in 2016, goes on to state that he has had issues with players from the state passing drug tests in the past, but he does not offer any names.

The coach finished the email by writing, "You can thank your liberal politicians. Best of Luck wherever you decide to play", the now-viral email read.

"As a coach, you don't have a right to demean a kid or to judge him based on a political idea so I was disgusted", Allan Dyer said. "This additional factor is an NAIA rule violation that has recently come to our attention". Colorado voters passed a law allowing recreational marijuana for adults.

Missouri governor's trial date set for May
Louis Post-Dispatch and the Kansas City Star, First Assistant Circuit Attorney Robert Steele responded that he didn't say that. Greitens, his lawyers and the state Republican Party have said the investigation and indictment are politically motivated.

Bell told 9News in Denver that he didn't intend to get Jeffcoat in trouble. He said he didn't want the coach to lose his job.

Bell said the reaction to Jeffcoat's response has been overwhelming. He claims players from Colorado have failed drug tests in the past and that he doesn't take the risk anymore. 'My intention wasn't trying to get this guy fired.

Slabach added that he's planning to contact Bell with an invitation to enroll at Texas Wesleyan. The president said he planned to reach out to the recruit and speak with him in the wake of Jeffcoat's firing. "And we would love to have Gavin here as a student".

That former coach's name is Mike Jeffcoat, and he spent ten years as an Major League Baseball pitcher before joining Texas Wesleyan's athletic department in 2002.

Jeffcoat, who spent parts of 10 seasons in the majors with four different teams, did not immediately reply to a request for comment from USA TODAY Sports.
