Meet the new Olympic and Paralympic mascots that the Tokyo 2020 organisers hope will whip up enthusiasm for the Games - and drive merchandise sales. Three final sets of mascots were available, with the winning entry being a pair of anime space rabbits.

The winning mascots, which will be named later in the year, were designed by Ryo Taniguchi, a character designer and illustrator whose work has been featured at various exhibitions in Japan.
