Thunderstorms and heavy rain to hit Coast today

The heaviest and likely most widespread rain will come overnight Monday into Tuesday, with some strong thunderstorms possible.

Forecasters put the metro-east under a flood watch Monday morning as thunderstorms and heavy rain were expected to roll into the area.

The front edge of a slow-moving cold front will bring a 70 percent chance of rain during the day Wednesday, with the probability of rain rising to 80 percent Wednesday night and 90 percent Thursday. That's on top of close to an inch of rain that fell Saturday.

The National Weather Service said rain falling on already saturated ground will likely cause flooding in some areas.

Tuesday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, with a high near 48, the weather service said, and a north wind of 8 to 10 miles per hour. Partly sunny with a high near 65.

Wednesday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m., according to the weather service.

At best, residents can expect a partly cloudy start to the school holidays.

A Flood Watch will be in effect for much of central in beginning Monday night, and continues through Wednesday morning.

Rain will taper off early Wednesday morning, with most of us drying out through the day. The predicted high temperature for Friday, March 30, is 63 degrees - normal for this time of year, the NWS said.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers.
