Australian cricketer Cameron Bancroft is suspected of ball tampering after he was seen appearing to rub it with a foreign object on day two of the third Test
The reputation of Australia's cricket team is in complete shambles after captain Steve Smith confessed to coming up with a plan with senior players to "cheat" South Africa by tampering with the ball in the third test.
Bancroft, who now faces fines and a possible match suspension, admitted to ball-tampering in a subsequent press conference, telling reporters: "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time".
Cricket Australia has initiated its own internal investigation into Cameron Bancroft's attempt to manipulate the ball with sticky tape and debris from the pitch, promising answers after a chorus of condemnation which began at the office of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and was echoed across the cricketing world.
'I was cited on the screen and that resulted in me shoving it down my pants'.
Television footage showed Bancroft take what he said was yellow tape out of his trouser pocket before rubbing the ball. The footage showed Bancroft rubbing the rough side of the ball, the opposite side to which he would usually be trying to shine on his pants.
He appeared to put the object down his trousers apparently after being spoken to by the substitute Peter Handscomb, who had come on to the field after speaking to coach Darren Lehmann over the walkie-talkie.
When Bancroft spoke to the umpires, he was shown holding a bigger, black cloth rather than the small yellow object he had earlier seemed to place down his pants.
However, Voges also said Smith and Bancroft would need to work hard to regain the respect of the cricket community. "It is very suspicious".
Paine admitted it was tough to take over as captain in such circumstances but hopes the team can learn from such a damaging episode.

It is a big error in judgement". Before the on-field umpires confronted Bancroft, the opening batsman was also seen putting the tape inside his pants.
