NIA summons former Nagaland CM Zeliang in extortion probe
Earlier, the NIA summons, issued by its Guwahati office on March 11, had asked Zeliang to appear before the agency's officers on March 13 at 10 am with relevant documents of the payments given to NSCN (K) from government departments. Mr Zeliang has been asked to appear at the NIA's headquarters in New Delhi tomorrow.

While detailing the circumstances surrounding the NIA summon, the NPF recounted that with the announcement of State Assembly Elections 2018 in Nagaland, came a summon from the NIA for three staffers of the then Chief Minister's Office.
National Investigation Agency (NIA)has summoned former Nagaland chief minister T R Zeliang for questioning in connection with a terror-funding case.
Zeliang was chief minister of the state until last week, when Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party leader Neiphiu Rio replaced him following the Assembly elections held in February.

In 2016, the NIA had registered a case to probe allegations of large scale extortion and illegal tax collection on behalf of the banned terrorist organization NSCN (K) from various government organizations and others by the outfit's cadres in Dimapur and Kohima. Money to the tune of Rs 20 crore was allegedly paid as bribe to the terror organisation.
Mr. Zeliang, seeking more time for appearing before the NIA in New Delhi, said the timing of the summons "is conspicuously odd" and politically motivated.
NPF said the whole development raised very serious questions as to whether a "well-webbed political vendetta" was being played out against Zeliang who "championed and was ready to sacrifice for the cause of Naga people and their 70 decades struggle".
Sources said these departments include the Directorate of Information Technology, Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation, Directorate of Irrigation, Directorate of Rural Development, Directorate of Urban Development, PWD, Roads and Buildings, and Directorate of Information and Public Relations. The federal anti-terror probe agency had recovered payment slips and registers which established that the arrested officers were hand in glove with NSCN (K) in its "illegal tax collection" racket.
In October 2017, NIA had arrested four government officials.
