Barcelona have refused to rule out a club activating Lionel Messi's £650million release clause after Paris Saint-Germain's £200m purchase of Neymar.

His departure left a bitter taste in the Catalan giants' mouths, but Neymar apparently wanted to attain Messi's status at the French club, and was hoping being the main star at another club would elevate his chances of lifting the Ballon d'Or.

Having had successful surgery in his homeland, Neymar will be assessed by PSG in six weeks to determine when he will return to training.
