Trudeau waiting to see if Canada gets exemption from new US tariffs

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump confirmed his previously announced tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminium imports.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said earlier on Thursday there was a "level of confidence" that the country's close relationship with the United States would protect it from the US tariffs.

During the opening of the joint $33-million McMaster University-Fraunhofer Project Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing facility March 7, the German ambassador to Canada, Sabine Sparwasser, talked about Germany and Canada united in an effort to fight against protectionism "in a time of political division".
