Donald Trump calls Jeff Sessions' surveillance probe decision 'disgraceful'

He said the department "will continue to do its work in a fair and impartial manner according to the law and Constitution".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions defended himself and the Justice Department on Wednesday after more criticism from President Trump.

The President rebuked Mr. Sessions, because he asked the agency's general inspector "to investigate the possibility of massive violations" in the observation applications. Isn't the I.G.an Obama guy?' Trump continued.

Sessions, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and Solicitor General Noel Francisco left Central Michel Richard, an upscale DC restaurant a block away from the Justice Department, a little before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The nickname is a snippet in a longer piece about how Special Counsel Robert Mueller is probing Trump's attempts to get Sessions to resign last summer, but that's not important.

Hayes said Trump is putting Sessions in a very hard spot by calling for further investigations into former President Obama and FISA abuse.

No favourite of Democrats, Sessions garnered support yesterday nevertheless over his taut relations with the president.

"6. And by the way, the IG *is* a 'Justice Department lawyer'".

"Sessions should have never recused himself", Trump said, "and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job, and I would have picked somebody else".

Priebus told Chris Whipple for his upcoming book The Gatekeepers: How the White House Chiefs of Staff Define Every Presidency, that Sessions submitted his resignation in May 2017 after Trump called him an "idiot" in the Oval Office following the Justice Department's appointment of Mueller to handle the Russian Federation probe.

It was the latest of Trump's attacks on Sessions, who continues to faithfully execute Trump's agenda.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz's office has acknowledged receiving Sessions' request but hasn't said it is investigating. White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders suggested on Tuesday that Mr Trump would be pleased with Mr Sessions' referral to the inspector general.

Rosenstein is overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election after Sessions recused himself.

A separate review of the FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation under former Director James Comey is not late. Conservatives rallied to Sessions' defense, particularly in Congress, and Trump backed down.

The tweet came a day after a federal judge ruled that the Trump administration had the right to waive environmental laws in order to build the wall. Trump has since been relentlessly pressuring Sessions to investigate political rivals. "And every time Donald Trump tweets that, that is the appearance it gives". That's why the attorney general's efforts, for Trump at least, are "DISGRACEFUL!"

I think that what we saw on Wednesday from the president and his AG is a bit of Kabuki theater.
