White House Personal Aide to the President John Mc Entee and White House Director of Social Media Dan Scavino leave the White House on Nov. 29 2017 in Washington DC
John McEntee, the former UConn quarterback whose trick shot video became a viral sensation in 2011, was sacked from his job as personal assistant to President Donald Trump on Monday, according to multiple reports.
McEntee is just the latest aide to leave the White House amid issues with his security clearance, after White House chief of staff John Kelly enacted a series of reforms following the scandal involving disgraced White House staff secretary Rob Porter.
News of McEntee's firing - which occurred on Monday - broke on Tuesday morning. According to the Wall Street Journal, McEntee was removed from the White House for an "unspecified security issue".
Brad Reed is a writer living in Boston. He was escorted off the White House grounds before he was allowed to collect his belongings, even leaving without his jacket, the Journal reported. Two sources said McEntee was pushed out because of issues with his security clearance, making him just the latest aide to be forced out because of difficulties obtaining a full security clearance.
McEntee, 27, walked on at UConn and was the Huskies' starting quarterback in 2011, leading the team to a 5-7 record. McEntee was a well-known player and the video has been viewed seven million times on YouTube, according to the Hartford Courant. He was known for keeping a remarkably low profile, and the former Fox News production assistant was well-liked in the West Wing, according to Politico.
