She noted the year that Liberians have before facing deportation, but said ending the program would force them to abandon lives in the United States. The program, which began under President Clinton, and was extended during the Bush and Obama administrations, allows people from the country to live and work legally in the U.S. It's similar to another program called "Temporary Protected Status", which the Trump administration also has worked to scale back.

Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama have periodically renewed the DED status, but Trump has now made a decision to allow it to expire, deeming Liberia safe for returnees.

Started in 1991 in part through a grant of Temporary Protected Status (TPS), certain Liberian nationals were eligible for DED, which allowed them to flee their country as a result of armed conflict and civil war and reside in the United States.

Liberia's beauty queen, Ms. Wokie Dolo who is now in the United States is appealing to the United States President, Donald to kindly extend the stay in the US of thousands of Liberians who are expected to be deported to home country, Liberia.

In a memo signed by Mr. Trump, the administration now finds that conditions in Liberia have improved and is "no longer experiencing armed conflict and has made significant progress in restoring stability and democratic governance".

From Minnesota, Mtss Dolo will be going to other parts of the U.S., where there are many Liberians, to continue her call on the US Government for the extension of their stay in that part of the world. "I won't give up this fight".
