Cape Town - UEFA has changed its rules for player registrations, allowing up to three January signings to play for their new clubs in the Champions League and Europa League.
In addition, once the group stage has been concluded, clubs will be allowed to add three new players to their squads without any restrictions.
For example, Philippe Coutinho may not play in the competition for Barcelona this season because of his involvement in it with Liverpool before Christmas.
Permitted to name 23 players (increased from 18) in matchday squad for Champions League final, Europa League final and UEFA Super Cup.
Clubs will likely welcome the changes in relation to extra-time substitutions and squad sizes for the finals, as they will afford "coaches more flexibility regarding substitutes, and facilitate their squad management for the most important fixture of the season".
The European global soccer body said in a statement that it would also allow teams to use a fourth substitute in extra-time during Champions League and Europa League knockout ties.
