Relatives protest visit by N Korea general blamed for warship sinking
On Sunday, Kim Yong-chol, the high-ranking official leading the North Korean delegation, which is here until Tuesday, told South Korean President Moon Jae-in that Pyongyang has "enough" willingness to begin dialogue with Washington, according to Seoul's presidential office.
Kim's nomination as the leader of the group is controversial in the South, where he is widely blamed for a spate of attacks including the torpedoing of Seoul's Cheonan warship in 2010 with the loss of 46 lives.
Speculation of potential North Korea-US talks rose earlier Sunday when South Korea released the full list of North Korean delegates, which includes Choi Kang Il, the deputy director of North American affairs.
North Korea has denied its involvement in the sinking.
However the chances of that seemed to diminish late Sunday as North Korea denounced the latest USA sanctions against the country as a potential "act of war".
The White House said its sanctions would continue.
In August, Trump threatened to go beyond sanctions by bringing "fire and fury like the world has never seen", although his administration has repeatedly said it prefers a diplomatic solution.
In his speech, Trump said "hopefully something positive can happen" from the sanctions pressure.

Referring specifically to Trump's threat, the spokesman said: "If US has indeed the guts to confront us in (a) "rough" manner, we will not necessarily take the trouble to stop it". A Blue House statement said the North Koreans expressed willingness to engage in a dialogue with the US and that Moon stressed that talks must open as soon as possible. "As President Moon stated, 'The improvement of relations between North and South Korea can not advance separately from resolving North Korea's nuclear program'".
President Donald Trump's daughter is leading the USA delegation at the ceremony in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Around 10 a.m., the main conservative opposition Liberty Korea Party formed a blockade in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, to physically block the North Korean official from entering the South, Money Today reported.
But Kim Yo Jong had no interaction with US Vice President Mike Pence at the opening ceremony, even though they were just a few seats apart in the same VIP area.
Pence later told Axios he ignored Kim because he didn't believe it was "proper" for the U.S. to pay attention to "someone who's not merely the sister of the dictator but is the leader of the propaganda effort".
Hundreds of right-wing protesters gathered in central Seoul on Monday to criticise Moon and his administration for hosting the North Koreans, Kim Yong Chol in particular.
Per a briefing from Blue House spokesperson Yoon Young-chan, the delegation spent their dinner discussing topics such as the "successful results of Olympic athletes of both countries, strengthening women's economic capabilities, the importance of work-family balance, and South Korean culture, such as K-Pop".
