Men's tennis etches 5-2 win over Alabama

The No. 49 Oklahoma women's tennis team made a comeback bid late in singles action, but came up short at No. 28 Baylor, falling 5-0.

Navy held a 3-1 lead after Gabriel Pilones (So., Bradenton, Fla.) won a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision over Pedro Gutierrez at the No. 4 flight, but the Terriers recorded three-set wins in each of the remaining three matches to post the overall win. Stripp fell to Livia Kraus after a second-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

"It was great to come out with a win today", stated head coach Chad Camper. In the second set, her opponent just had the better day winning 6-0.

During the singles matches, the Blue and Gold got their first win of the day when Stavrakas defeated Koulouris with 7-5, 3-6 and 6-3 sets.

Two other Panthers came decently close to winning a set and taking their respective matches to a third set. After being down 2-4 at the No. 3 spot, junior Jenna Kane and sophomore Hannah Jones came back to win it in the tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5), against freshman Julia Ronney and junior Lidia Dukic.

Kercheval said Eastern Kentucky is a very good and consistent team, but he is confident that the Panthers are not that far behind.

This weekend, the Panthers will get their second chance to host their first true home match, after Eastern's match against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville scheduled to be at the Darling Tennis Courts on Tuesday was played in Terre Haute due to weather concerns.
