SpaceX Launch Postponed title
For Iridium-5, SpaceX is using the same Falcon 9 first-stage booster that launched 10 Iridium Next satellites in October 2017 on the Iridium-3 mission.
Lift off was scheduled at 7:08 a.m.
The Iridium satellites, each weighing 1,896 pounds, will replace the world's largest commercial satellite network of low-Earth orbit satellites.
Iridium, which bills itself as the only mobile voice and data satellite communications network that spans the entire globe, partnered with Thales Alenia Space for the manufacturing, assembly and testing of the 81 Iridium NEXT satellites, at least 75 of which are slated to be carried into orbit by SpaceX over a span of eight total launches. Friday's launch is the first of two planned by SpaceX in the next four days.
The expected liftoff was originally scheduled for Thursday, but after an issue was detected by the launch team, the mission was delayed, Iridium CEO Matt Desch tweeted Tuesday.

SpaceX isn't going to attempt to recover the previously used Falcon 9 again, but it does plan to try to catch the fairing (the nose cone that covers the payload during launch) via Mr. Steven, a cargo ship equipped with a huge net. If fairings can be recovered, that could save millions of dollars per launch.
The launch will be the fifth SpaceX is contracted to conduct for Iridium.
A SpaceX launch of Iridium satellites in December caused quite a spectacle in California where the launch appeared in the sky and amazed some onlookers.
The Falcon 9 rocket will launch 10 Iridium Next satellites into orbit from SpaceX's Space Launch Complex-4E pad at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
