Hope Hicks, one of Donald Trump's longest-serving aides and perhaps his most trusted confidante, on Wednesday announced her resignation in the latest of a string of departures from the embattled White House. After his election triumph, she was named White House director of strategic communications, a job that allowed her to remain behind the scenes, coaching Trump while never appearing in public.

Hicks met behind closed doors Tuesday with the House Intelligence Committee, one of three congressional panels investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign. She became a focus of the Justice Department's investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russia, in relation to her knowledge about a June 2016 meeting between top campaign officials and a Russian lawyer offering dirt on Trump's opponent Hillary Clinton.

Aside from the President's children, the 29-year-old Hicks has been one of the only aides to remain by Trump's side through the entire duration of his political career, since he first announced he was running for President almost 3 years ago.

"There is no one that can fill the void Hope Hicks will leave behind", Sanders tweeted.

Here's a timeline of some of the most high-profile changes in the White House.

The White House announced on Wednesday that communications director Hope Hicks is stepping down after several weeks.

Still, Todd voiced outrage at the admission, blasting the White House's repeated claims that most news outlets that cover the Trump administration are "fake news".

Swalwell said - and Rooney acknowledged - that Rooney was not in the room for the very beginning of the questioning, which began with Swalwell asking Hicks about her relationship with Mr. Trump.

Head of Nation's Biggest Teachers' Union Says Arming School Teachers is "Insane"
Simply have them register their handgun with the local school resource officer who in turn forwards the info to his department. Then what? Someone gets shot because we put the gun in the classroom? "We have to minimize the vulnerability of our schools".

But that's not how NRA members see it. "I encourage companies like Delta Airlines to consider Birmingham, where we put people first".

Reporters have always seen Hicks as one of the few people who is actually close to the president and who can telegraph his point of view, or his willingness to participate in an interview. In 1990, he worked as Trump's golf caddie at the NY golf club that would later become Trump National Golf Club Westchester. "I wish the president and his administration the very best as he continues to lead our country".

Kelly's initial concern with Hicks was the uncertain nature of her role when he took over in July.

Hicks helped craft a statement about the nature of the meeting that turned out to be misleading.

Her resignation is yet another sign of instability in Trump's White House, and speaks of the shrinking influence of Jared Kushner, the president's adviser and son-in-law.

The media-shy Hicks was thrust into the spotlight last month after allegations surfaced that then-White House staff secretary Rob Porter had abused his ex-wives. Suddenly, she found herself a near-constant presence by Mr Trump's side during the campaign, flying in his jet, living rent-free in a Trump-owned apartment and attending to his mercurial moods.

It is hard to believe that Trump, who's depended on her assistance for years - well before the 2016 campaign - wanted her to go. "She totally understands him".

Hicks provided limited information to the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, when she sat before the committee for nine hours.
