White House denounces United Kingdom nerve agent attack, mum on Russian Federation

The US has refused to follow Britain's lead and blame Russian Federation for the poisoning of a former spy and his daughter in Salisbury.

Sanders spoke shortly after British Prime Minister Theresa May told British lawmakers that either the government of Vladimir Putin was directly behind the attack, or Moscow "lost control of this potentially catastrophically damaging nerve agent and allowed it to get into the hands of others".

Sanders described the incident as "an outrage" and said Washington has been closely monitoring developments.

The White House dubbed it "an outrage" and said it stood by the UK.

Her comments came hours after Theresa May said the nerve agent used in the poisoning was developed by Russian Federation, and it is "highly likely" that Russian Federation is responsible.

The White House has finally broken its silence over the attack, describing it as "reckless, indiscriminate and irresponsible".

Kansas City Chiefs prepared to release Tamba Hali

"Right now we are standing with our United Kingdom ally".

Asked whether the United States could corroborate the U.K.'s attribution, Sanders declined to do so, saying British officials were "still working through even some of the details of that". "We stand by our closest ally and the special relationship that we have". All remain in serious condition.

May said she came to the conclusion based on an investigation of the chemical agent used in the attack in Salisbury and the knowledge that Russian Federation has produced this agent before. "Based on the positive identification of this chemical agent ... our knowledge that Russia has previously produced this agent and would still be capable of doing so; Russia's record of conducting state-sponsored assassinations; and our assessment that Russia views some defectors as legitimate targets for assassinations, the government has concluded that it is highly likely that Russia was responsible for the act". Instead, Sanders said the administration is condemning the attack and "standing with our ally".

Sanders's comments were the first time the White House had spoken publicly about the attack.

"So, you're not saying Russian Federation was behind this?" the reporter asked.
