Area grocery shoppers will continue to have the Winn Dixie store on Highway 39 as place to buy fresh meats and veggies, even as the business' corporate parent announced Thursday plans to close 94 "underperforming" stores in seven states.

Southeastern, which is based in Jacksonville, said it has reached a restructuring agreement with a group of creditors holding 80 percent of its debt, which comes due in September.

Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie grocery stores, said it's in the process of restructuring that will save the company $500 million, but will force them to file bankruptcy and close 94 stores.

The company noted that 582 of its other "successful stores" will continue to operate throughout the process.

Chapter 11 gives a company the opportunity to reorganize its debt, and the company said, "It is our goal to work through our financial l restructuring as quickly and efficiently as possible and we expect to emerge within the next 90 days".
