The money was from both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which is Riyadh's main ally in the destructive war on Yemen.

On Monday, the Saudi-led coalition, which is engaged in a bloody military campaign against Yemen, displayed wreckage of what it claimed to be fragments of ballistic missiles supplied to the Houthis by Iran.

According to initial media reports, including from the Saudi Arabian state press agency, all seven missiles were intercepted and destroyed, but an Egyptian national was killed after sustaining shrapnel wounds in the aftermath.

Residents reported hearing loud explosions and seeing the sky fill up with smoke. No casualties have been reported.

The Huthi-run Al-Masira television channel claimed the rebels had targeted Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport as well as other airstrips in the south of the kingdom.

The Huthi rebels have fired dozens of missiles into Saudi Arabia since previous year, all of which Saudi forces claim to have intercepted, underscoring their capacity to strike deep within the kingdom amid a stalemated war in Yemen. Two missiles were fired at Jazan and one each at Khamis Mushait and Najran.

Following the missile strikes, thousands of people reportedly came out onto the streets of the capital Sanaa to take part in demonstrations coinciding with the third anniversary of the intervention against the Houthi rebels.

The latest barrage of Houthi missiles targeting Saudi Arabia has evoked global outrage.

Roger Federer wows fans by winning twin major sporting awards!
The Laureus best sporting moment of the year award went to the tragedy stricken "Eternal Champions" Chapecoense Football Club. Federer won his fifth and sixth Laureus statuettes and became the most decorated victor in the awards' history.

The latest strikes coincided with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to the United States, signalling that they may have been a display of disapproval by the Iran-backed rebels.

Coalition forces have made modest territorial gains over the course of the war but appear far from seizing back the capital.

The UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain said they stood behind Saudi Arabia and supported its efforts to defend itself.

Despite, increasing global condemnation, the United States and the United Kingdom, who are providing material and logistical support to the coalition in the war, are pitching in more arms to the Saudis.

An intensification of the Yemen conflict and certainly an escalation to direct conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia could scare off foreign investors.

Iran has denied the accusation but has defended the missile launchings, calling them a justified response to devastating Saudi-led aerial attacks in Yemen.

The conflict in Yemen has killed more than 10,000 people and displaced more than 2 million, unleashing a humanitarian crisis in the Arabian Peninsula's poorest country where almost 1 million people have been infected with cholera.
