Eastern and South Eastern Railway sources said suburban train services in Sealdah and Howrah divisions were affected as overhead wires snapped during the storm.
A massive storm on Tuesday evening left at least 8 people dead and several others injured in West Bengal. Departure and arrival of some flights, too, were delayed because of gusty winds in Kolkata, airport officials said. Of the 15 killed, four each died in Kolkata and Howrah districts. Almost fifty people have been injured after a wall collapsed during the incidents. Police informed that uprooted trees blocked at least 26 places thus causing inconvenience to commuters.
The Kolkata municipal corporation has reportedly activated a disaster management team to clear the debris in affected areas. Five people in Kolkata died after a tree fell in the autorickshaw they were travelling in the central part of the state.
