The LPG Panchayats witnessed the congregation of beneficiaries and facilitated the release of new LPG connections, pan-India.
It is reported that the central government would organise 1 lakh "LPG Panchayat" across the nation during the next 18 months to popularised the use of clean fuel for cooking among the rural population of the country. Each Panchayat had targeted participation by 500 women with a goal of enrolling at least 100 new LPG beneficiaries. Safety Literature (Safety Instruction and Insurance cards) were also distributed during the Panchayat sessions. LPG Panchayat is a community meeting which serves as a platform for LPG consumers to interact with each other, promote mutual learning, and share their experiences. Women who have experienced the benefits of cooking with LPG can now boost the confidence of other women about adopting this clean, green cooking fuel safely and without any reservations or misconceptions.
LPG Panchayats were held on Friday at Naringgre and Songsak playground in East Garo Hills as part of the nationwide celebration of "Ujjwala Diwas" by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), under the aegis of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan during which, the enrollment of 200 PMUY connections was acheived.
Enumerating the achievement of PMUY in the state, Ch Zulfkar informed that J&K has been placed on first spot in the country for implementation of the scheme adding that around four lakh free LPG connections have been issued under PMUY to the beneficiaries against the 5.07 lakh beneficiaries whose KYC have been done.
Of 3.60 crore connections, 50 lakh connections have been given under Ujjwala scheme in Bihar alone, he said.
