The semi-official Tasnim news agency said the quake was felt in Bahrain and some other Gulf states.

An natural disaster of at least 5.5 magnitude has struck in southern Iran, just 60 miles from the country's only nuclear power plant near the city of Bushehr.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Various magnitudes are normal following a temblor.

The quake was also felt in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Some in Qatar also felt the quake and evacuated tall buildings in Doha's West Bay area.
