"I think we all want the same thing for all players that compete on our team regardless of position", Saban said.

Saban keeps players from talking to the media, and he had a commitment from East Carolina grad transfer quarterback Gardner Minshew before he flipped to Washington State.

"I told Jalen, you f-ed up, you opened the door and put yourself in this situation", Averion Hurts told Bleacher Report in Hurts' hometown of Channelview, Texas. With AP Photos.Alabama coach Nick Saban says he had a "very positive meeting" with the father of quarterback Jalen Hurts after a recent scrimmage. The only thing out of the ordinary was the brutal honesty on the part of the elder Hurts about what would happen if his son didn't win the starting quarterback job. Jalen's done a great job and had significant improvement. "I don't think there's an issue or problem from my standpoint". "But he wants to play, and he will play". We don't want that for any of our players.

Hurts, a two-year starter who compiled a 26-2 record for Alabama, was benched in favor of Tagovailoa in the second half of the Tide's College Football Playoff title game against Georgia. Had Tagovailoa not played in that game, former Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin said he thought Tagovailoa would have transferred. Tagovailoa will not participate in the team's spring game on Saturday and Saban said he recently suffered a setback in his recovery.

Following practice Thursday, Saban said he wasn't "concerned about what somebody else chose to write" and instead relied on conversations he has had with Hurts and his parents, which he said have been positive. " ... it's unfortunate that Tua wasn't able to get as many reps, that might have helped his - enhanced his knowledge and experience. He has done a really good job".

Alabama's quarterback battle remains the most impactful offseason position question, and with the Tide's A-Day spring game on the horizon this weekend, it's taken center stage in the college football world.

- Saban said the program benefits from having a big crowd at A-Day. I see people canceling their spring game and that would be like Hari-kari around here.
