Alfie Evans' parents return to court amid Alder Hey protests

Tom Evans and Kate James had hoped to persuade appeal court judges that their 23-month-old son Alfie should receive life-support treatment overseas.

Lord Justice Moylan said that it was wrong for Alfie's parents to say that their own views trumped the best interests of the child.

Their attempt to take the case back to the Supreme Court was rejected by three Court of Appeal judges.

Alfie Evans has been battling an un-diagnosed degenerative brain disease.

Mr Evans and Ms James say "the state" is wrongly interfering in their parental choices.

Wiping away tears and visibly shaking, he again pleaded for his son's life not to be terminated, asking that other doctors be allowed to "look after him".

Alfie Evans, from Liverpool, is on a life support machine and requires round-the-clock treatment at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in the city.

"We're never going to give up on you, Alfie".

Alfie's parents have lost their latest legal bid.

It added: "Our priority is to continue to provide the best possible care for Alfie and his parents at this hard time".

Police are now entering Alder Hey hospital as a crowd of protesters gathers outside chanting "save Alfie Evans!"

Doctors have said they can provide no further treatment for the little boy, but his parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, have fought against the decision.
