Armenian protesters pile pressure on new PM
He advised that MPs from the Yelk faction brought their colleague Nikol Pashinyan who is leading the protest from the streets to the parliament.
Serzh Sarkisian was first elected in 2008 in the South Caucasus country of about 3 million people and served two terms.
Mr Pashinyan earlier urged protesters in Yerevan and in other cities to blockade state institutions.
Demonstrators in the capital proceeded to cordon off the interior ministry and the prosecutor's office, though police prevented them from entering the parliament where legislators confirmed Mr Sargsyan as prime minister. Protests were also held in other cities including Gyumri and Vanadzor, according to local media. He also called for spreading protests across Armenia.
