A man from Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday approached Surat police claiming that the minor girl, whose body was found here on April 6, might be his daughter.
The minor victim was found dead in bushes in Surat's Pandesara area on April 6 with 86 injury marks on her body including marks on the minor victim's private parts, PTI reported. Surat's Police Commissioner, Satish Sharma said that the victim was from Andhra Pradesh and went missing in October past year.

"We have sought a report on the action that has been taken to identify the girl and solve the crime", she said. "Parents of the victim have arrived in Surat, their DNA test to be conducted soon", Sharma told news agency ANI. She is from Andhra Pradesh and went missing in October previous year.
Police sources said that the person claimed her as his daughter showing her Aadhar Card.

According to the media reports, a couple from Andhra Pradesh had come forward saying that the victim was their daughter. She is believed be in the age group of 9 to 11 years.
The police thought there was a possibility that she might be the daughter of a migrant family from Bengal or Odisha who flock to work in the diamond city. "Therefore, we will match their DNA samples to verify the claim", Sharma said.
A monetary reward was announced for anybody who could provide police with information on the identity of the victim and posters were circulated across Surat.
A doctor at the city Civil Hospital here had said that the nature of injuries suggested that she was possibly held captive, tortured and raped.
The Surat police have chose to depend on DNA test after the identification of the little girl - whose horrific rape and murder fuelled nationwide protests over the weekend - hit a rough patch. Amid nationwide outrage over Kathua and Unnao rape cases, police booked the unidentified rape-accused under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and launched a massive operation to identify the victim.
