Bay Area students in northern California rally against gun-related violence
It's events Columbine and Parkland that inspired Waterloo West High School students to walk out and speak up.
The students gathered outside San Jose City Hall, about 72 kilometers south of downtown San Francisco, observing a moment of silence for the 13 people who were shot and killed in the Columbine High School massacre in Colorado in 1999.
Walkouts happened all across the country as students observe the anniversary of the Columbine shooting.
Students are planning to walk out of their classrooms at 10 a.m., meet at Mill Creek Park at 1 p.m. and march to the Liberty Bell on Truxtun Avenue.
"We have 100 percent failed them", said Miranda Viscoli of New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence.
One other important thing to remember about the teenagers of today is that they've grown up with social media.
Students at Germantown, Collierville, and Arlington high schools held similar events Friday morning, and those at Shelby County Schools participated in walkouts Thursday.

Lane Murdock, a sophomore, led the charge toward a student-driven demonstration that took place at the school's football stadium.
The students say their next step is for their advocacy to continue in smaller conversations inside the hallways and cafeteria of Liverpool High School until the change they want actually happens.
Arquell and Nisha were part of a group from Armstrong High School in Richmond that attended.
