Addressing CPM's 22nd All-India Congress in Hyderabad, Yechury attacked the RSS and BJP, stating that they had united all anti-Left organizations on a single platform to target the CPM.
With the next general elections just a year away, the Party Congress assumes added significance as any decision taken here will form the basis of the political line underscoring the CPM's strategy to better its performance from the nine Lok Sabha seats it won in 2014.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury will present the minority view on alliances when discussions on the draft political resolution, to be presented by his predecessor Prakash Karat, begin here on Wednesday, in a repeat of the 16th party congress in Calcutta in 1998.
He exuded confidence that the party conclave will give will give a new direction to strengthen its independent activities, to intensify people's struggles, to strengthen unity of Left forces and to boost the unity of the Left and democratic forces.
Referring to multifold challenges, he said, "the current BJP central government whose reins are controlled by the RSS is pursuing policies that have imposed unprecedented miseries on the people, while grievously threatening the unity and integrity of the social fabric", he said.
Mr. Yechury said the party congress was meeting at a time when incidents of rape in Kathua and Unnao had "dehumanised" society. "It is shameful to see rape being used as weapon for communal polarisation", he said. "They need to understand the need for greater Opposition unity to take on the formidable BJP", said a leader. He said, "We need to build broadest possible unity in our fight against BJP-RSS, but we can not compromise our class outlook while fighting them".
