Prince Charles to be next head of Commonwealth
"It is my honest wish that the Commonwealth will continue to offer stability and continuity for future generations and will decide that one day the Prince of Wales should carry on the important work started by my father in 1949", the queen said at the formal opening of the Commonwealth heads of Government Meeting.
May's office said the tribute to the queen would come before a series of meetings between Commonwealth leaders to discuss the organisation's most pressing issues.

Queen Elizabeth's opened the Commonwealth Summit in London, speaking about the healing hand the 53-nation grouping has on world affairs. The decision on who will succeed the Queen, who is 91, in the role will be made on Friday, the newspaper added.
"The modern Commonwealth has a vital role to play in building bridges between our countries", he said.
The opening ceremony was held at the Buckingham Palace, which saw the attendance of members of the royal family, heads of 53 Commonwealth member states, dignitaries and other guests.

More than 100 officers and soldiers from the Coldstream Guards are in the honour guard, wearing their famous scarlet tunics and bearskins, alongside the Band and Corps of Drums of the Coldstream Guards.
Meetings began in London on Monday with three days of forums - covering youth, women, business and civil society - and culminate with the official retreat for leaders at Windsor Castle on Friday.
